J. Henry Doscher, Jr. Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Law

J. Henry Doscher, Jr. Captain USNR (Ret.)

Established in 1994 by the lawyer, professor, Navy veteran and reserve captain, the J. Henry Doscher, Jr. Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Law provides funding for scholarships to qualified students in the School of Law.

J. Henry Doscher graduated from The University of Texas Law School in 1948, after serving in the US Navy during World War II. Henry followed law school as a briefing attorney for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas, and then became a law professor at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. After retiring, Henry dedicated his time to researching and writing about World War II naval history. He authored the books Little Wolf at Leyte and Subchaser in the South Pacific.

J. Henry Doscher, Jr., then a twenty-two-year-old Ensign on board the USS SC-761, in October 1943, while under way off Guadalcanal.

A devoted scholar of history, J. Henry Doscher’s family archive is housed in The University of Texas’ Eugene C. Barker Texas History Collection.

Along with the Henry Doscher, Jr. Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Law, J. Henry Doscher established the Christoph Friederich Doscher Endowed Scholarship and the Charles Paul Shearn Endowed Scholarship, both to benefit Plan II in the College of Liberal Arts.
