How to Give

How To Give image

All gifts, in all forms, are important to the University. Whether you make a gift of cash, stock, or another asset, you can direct your gift to any area of UT that is of particular interest to you. This section provides you with information about the many ways you can give to UT. If you want to make a gift now, please go to our secure online giving page.

Cash, Checks, Credit Cards

Outright gifts of cash, by check or credit card, are the easiest gifts to make. They are also tax deductible in the year given. UT Austin also gratefully accepts pledges — gifts that are paid over time. You can make a pledge commitment and set up a payment schedule that works best for you.

To make a gift by credit card, you can give now using our secure server, or call 800-687-4602 and provide your credit card information over the phone.

Pledges and cash gifts made by check (payable to The University of Texas at Austin) should be mailed with your contribution form or a letter stating your gift’s purpose to:

PO Box 7458
Austin, Texas 78713-7458
Phone: 800-687-4602

Gifts of Stock

Gifts of appreciated securities and closely held stock can be extremely beneficial—both to you and to UT Austin. You may receive an income-tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities, as well as reduce or eliminate capital gains taxes. Gifts of stock and mutual funds are coordinated by the UT System Office of Development and Gift Planning Services. Proceeds from the sale of these assets are directed to any program you wish. Please contact Charlotte Hambrick at 512-499-4300 for more information.

Planned Gifts

Planned gifts can be made now or deferred to a later time. Some enable you to support UT Austin, receive tax benefits, and sustain your current lifestyle. Such gifts include bequests through a will, retirement plan assets, and charitable trusts. For more information contact UT’s Gift Planning Team at 866-488-3927, or visit the Gift Planning web site.

Endowments

When you create an endowment, you can honor someone important to you while providing permanent support to UT Austin. The money is invested, and each year a distribution is made from the endowment to support the program or area of your choice.

Matching Gifts

You may be able to double or even triple your gift to UT. Many employers sponsor matching gift programs to match charitable contributions made by their employees. To find out if your company does, check our matching service or visit your company’s human resources department. Complete the form provided by your company and mail it to:
