1883 Council

The University of Texas 1883 Council is a University-sponsored volunteer organization of up-and-coming alumni leaders. Council members work with the University Development Office to develop future generations of alumni leaders through education and involvement.

Through 1883 Council events and activities, members gain unique access to and involvement with top university administrators, faculty, and other leading alumni. These interactions help members stay informed about the University’s operational, academic, legislative, and financial progress, opportunities, and challenges. Council members, in turn, work with other alumni to strengthen relationships and increase philanthropic giving to academic areas of the University.

Each council member has the opportunity to attend an advisory council meeting for a specific college, school, or unit of the University to learn about its activities, goals and needs. The council holds fall and spring meetings in Austin to further expose members to the University’s unique programs and resources.

Council members work with UT’s gift officers to actively engage other alumni in the University’s development efforts, specifically around the 40 Acres Scholarship Program, the University’s new merit-based full-ride scholarship for incoming freshman.

The 1883 Council was formed in 2007 and comprises 30 members appointed to serve three-year terms.
