Development Board
The University Development Board works closely with the president of the University to increase private support of the institution and champion University-wide development priorities. "Development" is defined broadly to mean creating and employing strategies to improve public understanding of the University’s impact on Texas and the nation while, at the same time, attracting private support. The University's capacity to strengthen its base of support and increase revenue from all sources, public and private, are closely linked.
The Development Board promotes awareness among the University’s constituencies of the broad value and impact UT Austin has on their lives, how philanthropy and public support follow a compelling vision, and how resources can be applied more strategically if understood in the context of the University’s larger role in society. Members share the belief that philanthropy is an investment with a return – seed capital that helps to fuel an enterprise of enormous breadth and influence on our economy, health, culture, and overall quality of life.
Under the leadership of the Development Board, the University launched a $1 billion, seven-year capital campaign in the fall of 1997. Thanks to the good will and involvement of key leaders and friends, UT exceeded this benchmark in March 2002 and reached a final total of $1,626,021,256 on August 31, 2004.
The Development Board has supported the ambition of The University of Texas since it was formed by the Board of Regents in 1937. It has provided strong leadership and guidance throughout the successful capital campaign and will continue to play a critical role in strengthening all bases of support in the years to come.
