Astronomy is leading a revolution in our worldview. McDonald Observatory and the Department of Astronomy are leaders in this scientific revolution. Our faculty, graduate students, and researchers are among the world’s best. We have the Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald Observatory, one of the world’s largest.

UT astronomers are leaders in a wide variety of research areas, using visible light and other wavelengths captured by radio telescopes and space observatories. Our strengths in observation, theory, and advanced computation provide the foundation for solving outstanding problems in astronomy, particle physics, and cosmology.
