The University of Texas at Austin is home to one of the largest research collections in the world, the heart and soul of which is the University of Texas Libraries. Since opening in 1884 in a small unlit space on the top floor of the Old Main Building, the Libraries have grown with the University. Today they occupy 14 facilities and are a central resource for research and learning.

Our library system is the largest in the state of Texas and ranks among the top 10 research libraries in North America. Our world-class collections continue to grow along with 21st-century scholarship in such developing areas as health sciences and nanotechnology.
