My highest aspiration as UT Austin’s president is to help raise our quality and stature until we are the finest public university in the world. To get there, we need to attract top faculty in both teaching and research. And we need the best pool of diverse and talented students — individuals who will go on, as our graduates have for generations, to be leaders in their fields.
Addressing these essentials is what the President’s Associates is all about. This university can be number one. With your help, we will be.

William Powers, Jr.
Your Dollars at Work
The President’s Associates membership is a diverse group of men and women who share a confidence in a brighter future and the belief that UT can help shape that future. Hundreds of dedicated alumni and friends give their support through this program, either annually or through a permanent endowment. More than 300 members have established permanent endowments, and at least 70 have planned bequests to benefit UT. More than five dozen have consistently made gifts to the Office of the President for 20 or more years.
Contributions from members to the President’s Office are put to use throughout the Forty Acres. Since the inception of President’s Associates in 1972, members have contributed $324 million to all areas of UT academics and $40 million to UT athletics.
Enabling Students to Achieve their Potential
- Funds help support dozens of scholarships for outstanding undergraduates, as well as Freshman Interest Groups, which each year help hundreds of students to quickly become part of a nurturing academic community of peers and mentors.
- Fellowship funds strengthen the University’s ongoing effort to recruit and retain the best graduate students. These individuals, some of whom are true prodigies in their field, are essential to the operation of a first-class research university. They directly affect the caliber of faculty we can attract, and they are role models and mentors to our undergraduates.
Encouraging Excellence in Education
- Dozens of outstanding faculty and staff members are recognized by their students and peers with prestigious President’s Associates awards for teaching, leadership, and academic advising.
- Extraordinary opportunities are made possible. In the past year, President’s Associates sponsored a Phi Beta Kappa lecture series featuring distinguished scholars from universities including Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. They have funded important leadership and outreach programs including Leadership Texas, an academic conference in Mexico City, and Camp Texas. President’s Associates have also supported critical needs not covered by the University’s budget.
President’s Associates also give their time. More than 300 members have volunteered to work on the University’s advisory councils and Development Board.
Your Connection to Campus
Members of the President’s Associates are among The University of Texas at Austin’s most generous donors, and it is our pleasure to help keep you informed of University priorities and activities. As a member of the President’s Associates, you will receive:
- An invitation to a president’s reception before a Texas Longhorn home football game.
- Invitations to special gatherings in Austin and other cities with the president and other University leaders.
- Timely communications, including A Letter from the President, highlighting current challenges and opportunities; Philanthropy at Texas, a publication demonstrating the impact of philanthropy at the University; and a copy of the president’s annual State of the University address.
Become a Life Member – Create an Endowment
While your unrestricted annual giving provides important resources for immediate needs, you may wish to consider establishing a permanent endowment that will provide flexible funds for the president to support important initiatives on campus in perpetuity. Two types of endowments are available:
- A President’s Excellence Fund Endowment of $100,000 or more provides an annual distribution that the president can use to address program initiatives and critical needs as they arise.
- A President’s Associates Endowment of $25,000 or more also provides an annual distribution for the discretionary use of the president to benefit priority programs and address campus needs.
You may fund your endowment with an outright gift or pledge your gift over a period of up to five years. Employer matching contributions may be applied toward your endowment goal.
