As the site of world-changing research and championship sports, The University of Texas at Austin has helped turn the Texas capital into a global destination. Now the new Texas Performing Arts Plaza will build on UT’s status as a leading destination for the arts.

The highly visible location in front of Bass Concert Hall is part of UT’s Texas Performing Arts, the country’s biggest and busiest university performing arts center. The revitalized plaza will be a world-class gathering place and artistic oasis for students, audiences and Texas fans. Plans for the site include a shaded pavilion, new dining options and display technology for digital artwork by students and artists.

The first gift to the project comes from Texas Performing Arts board member Kristin Alexander, BBA ’03, and her husband, Joshua Alexander, B.A. ’03. In honor of the couple’s $5 million gift, the plaza’s centerpiece pavilion will be named the Alexander Pavilion, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors to great performances each year.

“Our gift will make it possible for more students and community members to experience the power of the arts in the heart of campus,” say the Alexanders. “We’re thrilled to create this legacy for our family for many years to come.”
