Foundation helps students who need a little financial support to succeed

The Texas Challenge provides 1:1 matches for gifts of $125,000 or more designated to create an endowed scholarship. The Jeffrey L. Greenblum Endowed Scholarship, which provides multi-year support for UT undergraduates from the Laredo region, was doubled, thanks to the Texas Challenge.

Jeff Greenblum, B.A. ’74, grew up in Laredo. His career focused on service and entrepreneurship, from his role in the George H.W. Bush administration at the departments of Energy and Commerce to working in natural resource consultancy and owning his own mineral exploration business. Looking out for the future of others, he developed the Jeffrey L. Greenblum Foundation through his will. The foundation’s first major gift is the UT scholarship, created in Jeff’s memory.

“I’m grateful that my brother had the foresight and depth of feeling for others to set aside a part of the money he earned during his lifetime to be dedicated to helping people,” says Jeff’s younger brother, Robbie, B.A. ’85. “We grew up with people who were incredibly smart and highly qualified to go to UT but just couldn’t afford it. The scholarship is about helping students from Laredo who are ready to succeed but just need a little financial support.”
