Since 1970, Shakespeare at Winedale has transformed students’ lives through the power of performance, scholarship and community. With the Legacy Challenge your generosity can ensure the program has the necessary resources to be self-sustaining and keep the curtain rising for generations to come.

When you document a new or increased planned gift for the Shakespeare at Winedale University Program or Camp Shakespeare, we will designate additional challenge funds to the selected program of your choice. These funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t delay! Join the Challenge, Become a Texas Leader

By participating in the Legacy Challenge, you will be automatically enrolled as a member of UT’s legacy giving society. Founded in 1997, the Texas Leadership Society honors UT alumni and friends who have supported The University of Texas at Austin through their estate plans. As a Texas Leader member, you will receive:

  • a commemorative membership lapel pin
  • a complimentary subscription to Texas Leader magazine
  • invitation to the Texas Leadership Society annual luncheon and other donor-only events

A Texas-Sized Legacy

As Director of the Shakespeare at Winedale Program since 2000, James Loehlin (B.A. ’86) inspired hundreds of students to achieve academic and personal excellence. After James passed in 2023, his wife Laurel Loehlin (BBA, ’87) established a new legacy gift in addition to a memorial fund honoring his passion, empathy, and commitment to the program.

Shakespeare at Winedale Alumni, Don Brode (B.A. ’89) and his wife, Susan, were inspired to create a legacy gift for Camp Shakespeare after seeing the positive impact the camp experience had on their daughter Lilly.
